A year has passed - and our four Guards are celebrating the anniversary of their victory over the Prince of Darkness. But Zanrelot would not be the reincarnation of evil, if he actually did take a low profile. Across the water and with help from Matreus, Zanrelot’s living remains - a green mist - are searching for his father’s birthplace: the city of Hamburg! Here, and only here, where his ancestral fathers are buried, deep below the rivers Elbe and Alster, the origin of his ancestors, can he regain his strength, scheming, until he obtains 100% control of the town and the famous “Gateway to the World” opens for him! As their magical powers are confined within the town borders, the Guards in Lübeck are forced to surrender their responsibility to the descendants of the Hamburg family branch. Time is of the essence: Zanrelot wants to destroy the new Guards! Four unsuspecting, completely normal children from Hamburg, two sisters and two boys, who could hardly be more different and with no love lost between them, yet united by a centuries-old kindredship, are suddenly confronted by the ghost of their hundredfold great aunt, are threatened by a dark entity capable of walking through walls, receive magical weapons, a book and a “stupid magical spell” from four children from Lübeck and have to face a 480-year-old Prince of Darkness who has it in for them! All of this, despite the fact that the young Hamburgers have problems of their own: uncaring or alcoholised parents, who demand too much, or decide on divorce, unhappy love stories, first kisses, bad marks at school, pimples and all the other things that youngsters have to deal with! But, whether the four of them like it or not, they are the new Guards, whose responsibility it is to save Hamburg and the world from Zanrelot. They are the new, magical quartet of the third season of 4 against Z!
