Eastern Germany's vibrant economic metropolis sets the stage for the investigations of two richly drawn, multi-faceted personalities, Homicide Inspectors Eva Saalfeld (Simone Thomalla) and Andreas Keppler (Martin Wuttke). Eva is a bundle of energy who is apt to underscore some sudden inspiration by slapping her desk and leaping out of her chair. She's impulsive, determined, and occasionally frustrated by the slow pace of an investigation. And even though she can hide her emotions very well, she's also a profoundly sensitive woman who is often moved by the broken lives and hopeless situations she encounters on the job. Andreas is anything but spontaneous; he's reflective and analytical, he ponders his decisions and stores the tiniest facts in his mind. And if his hangdog looks and world-weary gaze suggest a troubled past, it's no wonder: he and Eva had once been a couple whose marriage fell apart when their infant child suddenly died. Andreas began to drink and had himself transferred, but managed to pull himself back up after a while. Now he's back in Leipzig, with Eva as his partner - a combination that ensures an emotional depth rare among the inspectors of the "Scene of the Crime" series.
