Sarah and her loved ones are busy preparing Ruven's bar mitzvah, the major event of the year, and possibly the decade. But Jil, Sarah's beautiful, single niece, has a secret for Sarah that instantly makes her almost as huggable as young Ruven: she's fallen in love with a handsome, single man. And he loves her too. But what Jil fails to mention is that he's not Jewish. With Sarah spreading the news like wildfire, and Jil's family counting on her to marry a good Jewish boy, Jil is in a fine mess. Too dutiful to defy her family, Jil convinces her boyfriend, Marc, to pass himself off as a Jew. Love motivates him to undergo a total immersion course in Jewishness, and, as Jonathan Rosenzweig, he breezes through the first test at a family dinner. Jil doesn't fare too well with Marc's family, however, since she doesn't find the Jewish jokes funny at all. But the real test comes at Ruven's bar mitzvah, where Marc and his parents penetrate into the lion's den of Jewish rituals and folklore.
